Dear Friend,
I am writing from a human rights organization in Washington DC called Human Rights Watch. We currently have a relatively new program called the Arms Project whose primary objective is to monitor and curb arms proliferation to parties in conflict that are known to commit gross violations of internationally recognized human rights and humanitarian laws. We are non-partisan and not a disarmament group - our advocacy focuses on stopping further arms flow and the banning of weapons that kill or maim indescriminately, such as landmines.
I am writing to you to find out what Antimilitarist Radical Association does in regards to Africa (especially the Great Lakes region) in terms of advocacy or relief work. Would you please write back to tell me a little more about your organization? I would be interested learning if you have affiliations with any governments or religious groups; if your methods include public awareness, grassroots campaigning, or lobbying policy makers; if you have any affiliation with other NGOs in the Europe, the US or Africa ... In order for us to make our advocacy work more effective we would like to identify organizations that have similar interests, even if their main focus or ultimate goal is not the same as ours.
Thank you very much for your time or any effort you put into this. If you have any questions or comments, you can reach me at the Human Rights Watch Arms Project: 1522 K Street, NW #910
