INTERMUNICIPAL COURT KHAMOVNICHESKIJ RULES NOT TO CALL TO ACCOUNT PARTICIPANTS IN THE MANIFESTATION IN THE RED SQUARE

(Moscow, October 6, 1997) -- Today Intermunicipal Court Khamovnicheskij (Moscow) heard a case of Nikolaj Khramov, Evghenij Zhuchkin and Viktor Doludenko, accused of an administrative offense. On the 1-st of October ARA militants attempted to hold in the Red Square an action to defend the right of conscripts to information. They lied down on the paving stones forming with their bodies "59.3." - the number of article of Russian Constitution that guarantees to every citizen the right to conscientious objection and the possibility to replace military service by alternative civilian service. Twenty demonstrators were immediately arrested by the militia, three of them were accused of holding "an illegal picket" (article 166.1 of the Russian Administrative Code) and summoned to Court.

Advocate Igor Bezrukov, co-president of the Presidential Commission of Legal Experts, defended ARA militants in Court.

Judge Valerij Suchkov ruled not to call to account Evghenij Zhuchkin and ARA Secretary Nikolaj Khramov, confining to an "oral reproof". As for Viktor Doludenko, his case will be heard on the 14-th of October, at 10:30 a.m. at Intermunicipal Court Khamovnicheskij, 7 Rostovskij pereulok, 21.
