UNFORTUNATELY FOR MOSCOW MILITARY COMMISSARIAT, ACTIVISTS OF ARA HAVE ACCEPTED ITS INVITATION TO "OPEN DOORS DAY"
On Friday, October 23, the Moscow City Military Commissariat carried out on city recruitment office the solemn ceremony of dispatching in armies of the first Moscow recruits of the autumn draft campaign of 1998. In this case on Ugreshskaja str. 8 (where the city recruitment office is located) the "Open Doors Day" was carried out by Moscow City Military Commissariat, where the military promised consultations on how the draft is going on for all interested draftees. The information on this action was beforehand published in a number of the Moscow newspapers.
The invitation has been accepted by activists of the Antimilitarist Radical Association (ARA), who arrived on Ugreshskaja street in order to help military to give the objective information on the constitutional rights of the recruits, first of all - about the citizens' conscientious objection right guaranteed by Art. 59.3 of the Constitution of Russian Federation. About two hundred of persons (everyone, who has come to the "Open Doors Day") have received from antimilitarists leaflets with information on conscientious objection right, on how to realize this right now, in absence of the federal law on alternative civilian service and on where and when it is possible to receive a detailed consultation on this question.
The military officials have not decided to close the "open doors" and to expose ARA members from territory of recruitment office.
The Antimilitarist Radical Association carry out weekly seminars for conscientious objectors in Moscow on Fridays in Andrey Sakharov Museum & Public Center (Zemnljanoj Val 57, building 6). Seminars begin at 17:00.
