SPECIAL SESSION OF THE STATE DUMA ON SITUATION IN YUGOSLAVIA: AN UNPRECEDENTED EXAMPLE OF MOVING RALLYING OF FASCISTS, COMMUNISTS AND "DEMOCRATS"
Moscow, March 27, 1999.
Statement of Nikolaj Khramov, secretary of Antimilitarist Radical Association (ARA):
``The today's special session of the State Duma on situation in Yugoslavia which has turned into classical Soviet meeting (almost like that one, praised by Galich at his time), appeared as an unprecedented example of moving rallying of fascists, communists and "democrats" on the ground of an almost forgotten spiteful and demagogic antiamericanism.
But let them in peace - all this Zhirinovskys, Zyganovs, Baburins and Ilyukhins. However, it is especially pity and deplorably to see "democrats" and "human rights defenders" in this position, apparently unusual for them: from Javlinskij to Shejnis and Lysenko, who suddenly became pacifists and rushed to protect the rights of man, a concrete man - Slobodan Milosevic, a concrete sovereign right - to continue unpunishedly to carrying out genocide of Albanian population in Kosovo. Those have started suddenly talking about human rights and horrors of war, who pretended during last eight years, that there is no war on Balkan launched by Milosevic in Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo, that there are no ethnic cleansing and genocide, that there are no hundreds of thousand butchered, raped, expelled from their homes civilians!
Probably, our "human rights defenders" and "democrats" hope that pacifism and antiamericanism will make them a kind service on parliamentary elections in December (and for somebody - also on presidential elections next year). However, all the parliamentarians spoken today in Duma (except the unique Konstantin Borovoj) - all, red-brown, pink, three-colour - have shown, up to what degree they spit on real problems and interests of their voters. Problems, which can not be solved in any way by the unanimity, shown urbi et orbi, in aspiration to withstanding with all the world except for China, Iraq, Yugoslavia.
As for us - radicals, antimilitarists (but not pacifists!) - our sympathies are today on side of victims of the red-brown aggression lasting already for eight years on Balkan, on side of NATO and USA, from whom depends again, like six decades ago, whether the criminal aggressive regime would be stopped or not. We consider the active, aggressive nonviolence, the real information war against totalitarian regimes in Belgrade, Beijing, Baghdad (and, perhaps, tomorrow Moscow too, again?), the Law and Right are the most powerful weapon, capable to ruin dictatorial regimes in any part of the planet. However, today after Gandhi we reject a coward and demagogic pacifism of those who prefers inactivity and silent complicity instead of resolute, although military action.''
