ON MONDAY, AUGUST 16, THE MOSCOW CITY COURT WILL EXAMINE THE CASE OF VIKTOR SEKERIN, A MEMBER OF THE ARA AND A CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR
Moscow, August 12, 1999.
On Monday, August 16, the Moscow City Court (Bogorodskii val, 8, room 346) will examine the cassation appeal of Viktor Sekerin against the decision of Nagatinskii Interregional Court of Moscow that refused to satisfy his complaint against the actions of the Enlistment Commission.
Viktor Sekerin, a member of the ARA, declared that he conscientiously objected and asked the Enlistment Commission to assign him to perform the alternative civilian service instead of the military service, according to Art. 59.3 of the Russian Constitution and Art. 28 of the Compulsory Military Service federal law. However, as in other similar cases, the Enlistment Commission refused to comply with his application and decided to call V. Sekerin up for military service, motivating its decision with the lack of the Alternative Civilian Service law.
The Court session begins at 2:45 p.m. The Secretary of the ARA Nikolai Khramov will participate in the trial as a representative of the plaintiff.
