THE RADICALS AND THE DEMOCRATIC UNION OF NOVODVORSKAYA NEAR THE AMERICAN EMBASSY: "MISTER CLINTON, SILENCE + CREDITS = COMPLICITY"

Moscow, 5 June, 2000 - Today the activists of the Transnational Radical Party and the Antimilitarist Radial Association (ARA) took part in the manifestation organized by the Democratic Union (DU) of Valeria Novodvorskaya near the USA embassy in Moscow. The demonstration was timed to the visit of the american president to Russia. The radicals and the DU members held stars and stripes american flags and blue flags with Mahatma Ghandi profile (emblem of the Radical Party), and called the Clinton's administration to take more critical stand in respect of the Putin's regime waging a criminal war in Chechnya and attacking the freedom of the press in Russia. The activists held slogans "Mister Clinton, silence + credits = complicity", "Freedom to Chechnya, democracy to Russia" etc. near the building of the american embassy in Novinsky bulvar. Both leaders - Valeria Novodvorskaya and Nikolay Khramov - took part in the manifestation.

"We came to the american embassy today, the day after the anti-american and anti-western communist orgy took place here, we came to support our political - and personal - friends of the Democratic Union. We came to send a clear message to the administration of the White House: there are in Russia political forces which think that the uncritical attitude of the Clinton's administration towards the Putin's regime waging a genocide in Chechnya and attacking democratic freedoms in our own country is damaging the fate of democracy in Russia. Today our comrades - the radicals of Italy - will meet the president Putin coming to the Italian capital with slogans demanding to stop immediately the Chechen war and to begin negotiations between the president Putin and the president Maskhadov", - the secretary of the ARA Nikolay Khramov said to numerous journalists.
