RADICALS TOOK PART IN THE ANTI-WAR MANIFESTATION ORGANIZED BY THE DEMOCRATIC UNION AT PUSHKINSKAYA SQUARE IN MOSCOW

Moscow, June 22 2000 - About one hundred and fifty people took part today in the anti-war, antifascist manifestation organized by the Democratic Union at Pushkinskaya square in Moscow. Activists of the Radical Party and the ARA took part in the manifestation timed to the 59-th anniversary of entry of the Soviet Union into the WWII, under slogans: "Freedom to Chechnya, democracy to Russia!", "No - to the Chechen war", "Soldiers, go home!".

The leader of the Democratic Union Valeria Novodvorskaya, the chairman of the ARA Valery Borschyov, the director of the Russian PEN-Center Alexandr Tkachenko, the co-chairman of the movement "Democratic Russia" Lev Ponomaryov, the chairman of the Antifascist Youth Action Pyotr Kaznacheyev, the secretary of the ARA and Russian coordinator of the Radical Party Nikolay Khramov spoke at the meeting.

During the meeting radicals organized a street table near the monument to Pushkin, 42 new signatures were collected under the petition "Third Millenium without the Conscription Slavery", 34 signatures - under the petition against the Chechen war, and 140 rubles were donated. During the manifestation two people joined the ARA for 2000 and paid 300 rubles of membership fees.
