Do you remember the episode of the mothers-courage who, in front of the Italian Chamber of Deputies attempted to aggress radical deputies guilty of wanting to oppose the parliamentary bill on drugs? They were shouting "murderers" to the radicals, "we want life, not death". It would have been useless to explain that this governmental law would make the "murderers", the "drug-traffickers" even richer than they are now, would make the price of drugs increase, mwould make lethal "blendings" of drugs even more frequent.
Here's a piece of news that sets some things clear (Il Resto del Carlino, 22 march 1990):
"'ONE OF THE MOTHERS-COURAGE' HAS BEEN ARRESTED: SHE WAS SELLING DRUGS
She was one of the activists of the anti-drug committee of Naples, and the son was the leader of the group.
NAPLES - "Mother-courage" is in jail. Ersilia D'Afflitto, 58 years of age, one of the women who had dared to declare war to the drug traffickers, was herself a drug trafficker"...Ersilia D'Afflitto is allegedly involved in a consistant drug traffic with Morocco"..."the alleged leader of the organization is himding. His name is Michele Riccardi, he's the son of the "mother courage" of the spanish quarters..."
I obviously believe that until a final sentence has been reached, Naple's "mother-courage" should be considered non-guilty, and that the arrest of one component of the committee doesn't necessarily mean that the other components are drug traffickers as well.
The question is the same: who is to benefit of harsher punishments for drug addicts?
