I was saying, doses of heroin comparable to cars without breaks, with used tires, with the oil warning light out of order. If there are limits and controls for coffee, wine, tea, tobacco, we ask these same controls to be applied also to heroin and cocaine. While knowing, it is clear, as Laura and Caterina do, that no substance in itself is a danger, that curare can be an effective antidote, that heroin is an excellent pain-killer, but that consumption often occurs regardless of purely logical or sanitary factors, and that it is necessary to help people make less mistakes, and in any case pass less for the cost of their mistakes. |
Unless, and this is the prohibitionist alternative, prohibition serves the purpose of making drugs, drug sellers and drug consumers, all disappear. If such were the case, then the problem which we are passionately debating would not exist altogether. |
