AmFar (the American Foundation for Aids Reseach) awarded $60,000 to Tacoma-Pierce (Washington) Health Department for a 10-month study of their current clean-needle exchange program in 1988, and preliminary results indicate that risk-behavior was reduced while there was no increase in IV drug use. AmFar is hoping that this study will add to current data (primarily from Europe) and convice state and local governments that needle exchange is a desirable pubblic policy (are you listening, Dr Myers?)... Oh, and thanks, Madonna, for donating $300,000 to AmFar...Dalla rivista PWA Coalition Newsline, luglio/agosto 1990.
