Conferenza droga
Parrella Bernardo - 26 gennaio 1993
------------------------------
from an interview with William Burroughs, "ZONE" magazine, winter 92/93 ------------------------------

ZONE: What do you think about the war on drugs?

WB: Nonsensical, because it's obvious that this has been on going for years and years. People will continue to use drugs. So obviously, it only became a problem when drugs were made illegal. Before, there was no problem. All through the 19th century, which the conservatives will recall as the "good old days", you could buy over-the-counter at any drug store. When it became illegal, it became a problem, more and more. So if they are serious about raising money for effective treatment of addicts who want to stop using it, they should stop pouring money down the wrong drain...

ZONE: What's the importance of marijuana for you? Do you still think that it's a good drug for writing?

WB: It's a good drug for writing, painting, listening to music. Just general sort of peace and awareness. Visualization. I think it makes a big difference in the vision, the glow of ideas. It seems to speed up. To make more vivid. I'll be at a standstill, take a few puffs, and suddenly I'll see four or five different ways I could go.
