THE VOTE IN CALIFORNIA

Although a referendum allowing the medical use of marijuana was approved by California voters overall, 56 percent to 44 percent, the outcome was far from uniform across the state. The measure received strong support around San Francisco, but was opposed in the northeast and in the Central Valley.
