MISSION STATEMENT

The American Anti-Prohibition League works to:

* Replace failed adult drug prohibition with regulation.

* Reduce under-age drug use, protect kids from drugs.

* Stop drug-market related violence, crime and corruption.

* Expand drug abuse treatment options, reduce spread of HIV/AIDS.

* Release/Parole non-violent "drug offenders."

* Allow doctors to prescribe any drug, herb, etc.

* Restore cannabis sativa (hemp) to American agriculture.

The American Anti-Prohibition League, as it stands today, was founded in 1992 as a "political committee" in the State of Oregon. The tradition of anti-prohibition political movements in the U.S. trace their origins to the successful Repeal of Alcohol Prohibition (1918-33). Now the problem is essentially the same; yet made more difficult by the many new layers of political and economic special interests who hold government drug policy hostage to their narrow views, scapegoating, and financial gain.

Nonetheless the simple question remains: "Drug War, or Drug Peace?"

Our current political project is the Oregon Drugs Control Amendment petition drive. The ODCA could lead to an ANTI-PROHIBITION AMENDMENT to Oregon's Constitution and a comprehensive reform of Oregon's drug laws if passed by the voters in November, 1998. We are currently circulating the ODCA petition, VOLUNTEERS ARE URGENTLY NEEDED!
