Ministers aim for June fisheries aid package
LUXEMBOURG Fisheries ministers will try
to agree in June a package of socio economic measures to aid
fishermen, French Fisheries Minister Jean Puech said on
Thursday.
Measures include co financing of early retirement schemes
and payments to stabilise fishermen's income in the event of
sudden swings in market prices.
"The aim is to conclude in June," Puech, the current president of the Fisheries Council, told a news conference after a ministerial meeting.
Aides to the EU COREPER (committee of permanent
representatives) will continue study of Commission proposals
bearing in mind that financing should come from the fisheries
structural fund (IFOP) and member states should have flexibility in implementation, he added.
