BC FISH EUROPE TALKS/EU still facing difficulties over fish Canada
BRUSSELS, April 11 (Reuter) The European Union and Canada held new talks late on Tuesday in their effort to resolve their dispute over fishing in the North Atlantic, Canadian officials said.
But it emerged at the talks that differences remained within the 15 nation EU on the solution, they said.
"It was our impression that the Union still faces internal difficulties," spokeswoman for the Canadian External Trade Department Jennifer Sloan told Reuters.
She said the talks were held with the aim of clarifying what was understood by a draft agreement reached last week and that no new negotiations on substance had been held.
Canada has said that it will take action unless a solution is found by Wednesday and the spokeswoman said Ottawa was awaiting the outcome of a meeting of EU ambassadors to discuss the state of play and agree any deal on Wednesday.
