Food aid for Sierra Leone: Commission backs emergency aid plan
Emergency food aid is on its way for people displaced by civil conflict in Sierra Leone. The European Union is contributing 840,000 ECU to a three-month project in the war-torn country.
The European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO) will work with the British non-governmental organisation Concern Universal to supply food to some 52,000 people who have fled to the Kenema region of Sierra Leone. The Kenema Diocesan Disaster Relief Commission will act as the contact on the spot.
Those displaced are currently completely dependent on food aid. Thanks to this project they will receive rations including rice, beans and vegetable oil.
