BRUSSELS, Feb 7 (Reuter) - The United States told the European Commission on Wednesday it would step up humanitarian aid in Cuba by allowing more aid agencies to work there, a Commission spokesman said. "The United States said it intended to increase the number of licences for NGOs working in the humanitarian aid field in Cuba," the spokesman said after a meeting between Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Emma Bonino and U.S. Secretary of State for Cuba, Richard Nuccio. Otherwise the two simply exchanged information on their own humanitarian aid efforts in the country, the spokesman said. "There was no discussion of human rights or the (U.S. economic) embargo," he added. "That is outside the Commissioner's area of competence."
