MARCH AGAINST THE MYTH
" MARCH AGAINST THE MYTH,"
September 5th-8th, 1996, a four day, 50 mile march to protest the death penalty organized by the OREGON COALITION TO ABOLISH THE DEATH PENALTY (OCADP). The truth is that the death penalty is racist, classist, and arbitrarily applied. The OCADP recognizes the myths of capital punishment. The death penalty does not deter crime, foster a safe or peaceful society, and continues to allow the state to kill the innocent, mentally challenged, children, and those too poor to buy representation. The death penalty diverts human resources and public attention from the true causes of crime. The death penalty is state sanctioned murder and begets a violent society. The OCADP seeks to abolish the death penalty in Oregon by the year 2000. This is a long-term challenge requiring discussion, education, organization, debate and a contemporary strategy. The "MARCH AGAINST THE MYTH" is the cornerstone of our contemporary strategy. Join Us!!!
