Capital Punishment Cases in New York".
Following is a list of the defendants in cases in New York State in which prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, according to the Capital Defender Office.
Brooklyn
JERMAINE PAIGE Charged in the 1995 killing of Marvin McIntosh, 28, during a robbery in East New York.
MICHAEL SHANE HALE Charged with beating and suffocating Stefen Tanner, a 62-year-old businessman he had been living with. (His plea bargain arrangement has been rejected by a judge.)
DARREL K. HARRIS Charged with shooting two people to death and stabbing a third during a robbery at a social club in Bedford-Stuyvesant on Dec. 7, 1996.
Queens
JAMES ALLEN GORDON Charged with murdering three women in July 1996. The police said he raped one woman and tormented the others for hours over a $50 drug debt.
Suffolk
ROBERT SHULMAN Charged with killing and dismembering five women.
Dutchess
DALKEITH McINTOSH Charged with killing his estranged wife, an officer at the Fishkill Correctional Center, and her 23-year-old daughter in August 1996.
Rensselaer
STEVE L. WILLIAMSON Accused of murdering a 24-year-old woman on March 24 in her apartment in Griswold Heights, N.Y. The authorities said that he served three years in a Florida prison for a 1991 murder and was ordered deported to his native Guyana but disappeared after posting $10,000 bail.
Albany
ALLEN JOHNSON Charged with killing Anthony Ingoldsby of Albany in July 1996 during a burglary.
KRISTIAN PETER HANSEN Accused of killing an Albany cabdriver, Santo Cassaro, in August 1996.
Cortland
MATTHEW COVINGTON charged with stabbing a high-school mate to death because, he told the police "nobody liked her."
Monroe
ANGEL LUIS MATEO Charged with kidnapping and killing a man he believed knew the whereabouts of a former girlfriend.
Genesee
MICHAEL W. GRINNELL Accused in the deaths of two fellow magazine subscription salesmen in :August 1996 in the Town of Stafford.
