The EP "calls on the Governor of Pensilvanya to grant to a stay of execution to Mr Abu Jamal and to initiate proceeding for a review of his case" and "calls once again on all the States of the US where the death Penalty exists to abandon its use" and "calls on the Council, the Commission and the Member States to do everything possible to enable the GA of UN to promote at its 50th Session the establishment of a universal moratorium on capital punishment as a first step towards its total and definitive abolition"

* 21-09-95 The Case of Mr Abu Jamal in the States

The EP "reiterates its call for Mr Abu Jamal's case to be reviewed and calls on the EU authorities and the Governments of the Member States to make representations to the Pensilvanya authorities with a view to preventing the execution of and obtaining a review of the case".

* 20-02-97 - Resolution on the 53rd session of the UN commission on Human Rights

The EP calls on all member states to support a resolution urging a universal moratorium on executions during the 1997 session of the UN Commission on Human Rights as a first step towards the abolition of the death penalty for all crimes by the year 2000".

* 20-03-97 - Abolition of death penalty

The ACP-EU Joint Assembly "calls on all the signatory states of the ACP-EU Convention which have not yet abolished capital punishment to do so as a matter of urgency" and "calls on all the Member states of ACP and EU to promote the adoption of a resolution on universal moratorium on executions at the 1997 UN General Assembly as a first step towards abolishing of the death penalty for all crimes by year 2000".
