The EP deplores the fact that death penalty is applied in many states of US even in cases of a possible judicial error

* 16-12-93 - Death penalty in Egypt and Algeria

The EP recalling the Human Rights Declaration of 1989, asks Algeria and Egypt to put an end to the capital executions, being these an inhuman punishment.

* 20-01-94 - Executions in Turkey

The EP, recalling the fact that Turkey has not applied death penalty for the last 10 years, calls on the National Great Assembly not to condemn Mr. Seyfettin Uzundi to death

The EP "reiterates its call for Mr Abu Jamal's case to be reviewed and calls on the EU authorities and the Governments of the Member States to make representations to the Pensilvanya authorities with a view to preventing the execution of and obtaining a review of the case".

The EP calls on all member states to support a resolution urging a universal moratorium on executions during the 1997 session of the UN Commission on Human Rights as a first step towards the abolition of the death penalty for all crimes by the year 2000".

The EP "Whereas it has been demonstrated that the death penalty is a violation of human rights and that it is ineffective as a deterrent against crime", "launches a solemn appeal to the Governor of the State of Virginia to allow Joseph O'Dell to undergo the DNA test".
