From page 17 of _Good Medicine_, Volume III, Number 3 (Summer 1994):
(title) Have a Healthy Holiday!
"On a recent visit to Germany, one of our members thought he might find
a vegetarian meal at a spaghetti and pizza restaurant. He spoke no
German at all, so he asked, in French, that there be no meat on the
spaghetti. 'Pas de viande, pas de viande,' he repeated emphatically.
The waiter nodded his understanding, but apparently the word _viande_
(meat) was more familiar than the words preceding it. The plate of
spaghetti arrived, piled high with extra 'viande.'
This card says 'I'm a vegetarian. What do you recommend?' Even
if the language you require is not listed, the symbols for NO MEAT,
NO EGGS, and NO DAIRY PRODUCTS should ensure that your dietary
requirements are understood wherever you go. Enjoy your trip!"
Note: the cut-out International Vegetarian Card is in English, Arabic,
Czech, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian,
Italian, Japanese, Malay, Maltese, Mandarin, Norwegian, Philipino,
Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish.
